| Hi,
I'm trying to identify grass left over from previous owner. Location is Middlesex, NJ. I like this grass much better than the cool season fescue commonly grown in this area. I think its a warm season grass (?). It is a creeping grass that goes white in the winter and greens late in spring. It is very thick and lush during the summer. Other grasses are creeping in and I'd like to keep this grass dominant. Enclosed is link to flickr photos of the grass. http://www.flickr.com/photos/79830637@N04/ thanks!! |

| It is possibly St Augustine with lots of seed heads. If you can get a picture on a cloudy day or under an umbrella it would be a lot easier to see. If that is what you have, water it reasonably heavily once a week and mulch mow at the mower's highest setting. If you want it to spread and 'densify,' fertilize it with alfalfa pellets (rabbit food) every month at a rate of 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet. St Aug grows much better the taller it is. I am doing that experiment right now. I have plenty up around 20 inches. It has not been watered since October and has not been fertilized in years. Looks great (if you like that flowing wheat field look). |
