| I have always been reluctant to use chemicals. But when it looked like clover might eat my whole lawn, I felt like I had to intervene. I know clover returns nitrogen to the soil, but its very presence indicates an issue. And in any case, a yard composed entirely of clover means my stewardship has been questionable. So now, I think an EXTREMELY JUDICIOUS use of chemicals, coupled with vigorously-applied green practices, might be the way to go. So to that point: I used Ortho Weed-Be-Gone Clover, Chickweed, and Oxalis and it seems to be doing a great job. (It's slow, almost two weeks, but the long lag time allows the grass to gradually grow back in so there aren't big yellow patches as the clover dies back.) Then I fertilized with Green Max, which has a high nitrogen content (and is pet and kid friendly!). I'm not shilling, just telling what I experienced. The whole point is to get the lawn back into balance, which I'm hopeful will mean chemicals rarely, if ever, have to be used in the future. |
