Dead grass in one area

there is some dead grass next to a corner of my lawn by the fence. For some reason it never established. If the grass is brown as a crisp but good all around there, what should i do to it so the good grass can over take it? The grass is floratam. Does floratam spread.

Couple things.

You said corner. Could there be concrete from setting the corner post just under the dirt surface?

Could the fence be severely shading the area? Maybe that corner spot has fence directly to the south and west of it? Doubt this is the problem, but thought I'd ask anyway.

Are you getting water to that corner? Corners can be tricky to hit good all the time.

i think it is lack of water and i am going to adjust sprinkler system, but it is really really dead there. can i just start watering it and it will grow or should i remove dead grass?

Makes no difference if you remove the dead grass. You cannot water it back to life, but if any is not quite dead, it will come back. Plus the rest of the grass will spread. It might not spread this time of year but getting water to it is critical. St Augustine grass usually has spreading spurts in the spring and fall.
