Don't have a recipe, but you might try Milorganite. A lot of golf courses use it. I don't think it would bother children, but read the package to be sure. It is sewer sludge and best fertilizer you can buy. It does not burn.

That was my recipe for last year, too. Back when prices were different, this was my recipe.

corn meal at 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet

I guess if I had a point here, it would be, "don't over think organic lawn care."

You can get ground up grains at your local feed stores.
