Overseeding and bare spot patching. Is Sept 15 to late?

I plan on overseeing my lawn and patching some spots this fall. I live in central New Jersey and I know the best time to do this is on or about Sept. 1, but I will be away on vacation between the 8th and 15th so I won't be able to water and I do not have an irrigation system. I was thinking of setting up hoses and sprinkles on timers but I have over 40k sq. ft. to water so that's not really an option unless I borrow a lot of sprinklers and hoses from friends/neighbors. So, can I wait until Sept. 15? If not, any other ideas? Or anyone have some sprinklers, hoses or timers I can borrow?

In your part of the country as soon as the Summer heat breaks which is around Labor Day right?

Correct, most people say in this part of the country to seed on or about labor day.

To answer your question, yes, you can wait until September 15th to do your seeding. The soil temperatures in New Jersey will still be warm enough for seed to germinate.
