I had part of the yard torn up for a drainage line repair. I was hoping to re-seed several weeks ago but ongoing projects prevented it. The area is a mix of shade and sun and I was going to use a blend of K31 and Red Creeping fescue. Is it a waste of time/money to attempt seeding at the beginning of July (with a heat wave looming) in central NC? I do have a sprinkler system which is the only reason I was considering it. The seed has been purchased ($20). If I wait till September will the seed still be viable? Thanks for input.

Yes, wait until late September. The seed will still be viable in late September. The reason I say late September is because we still get hot days in the 90's well into September. The third and fourth week in September is usually my target week for re-seeding lawns for clients here in the Raleigh/Durham area.

At least one turf seed specialist for a major seed producer has opined that if kept in a cool dry dark place, seed could remain viable for as long as 10 yrs.
