Actually most people recommend memorial day as the time for the spring drop. You kind of jumped the gun with the early april application. If it was me, I would probably put down Milorganite at 10-15 lbs per thousand or a half dose of synthetic that is part slow release. NJ can get pretty steamy in June, you don't want to force too much top growth right before brown patch season.

Thanks bought some milorganite today. Put down 10 lbs. per 1000. Don't care how much it stinks if it works. Besides the wind is blowing toward my neighbors anyway. Not nice I know.

With organic fertilizer you can apply any time.

The reason early April is 'early' is that usually the grass comes back with a flush of growth in April. It does not need any help. Then after the early growth stops, you can fertilize. Waiting until late may ensures that you have gone through the growth spurt.

Grass farmers know to apply 2/3 to 3/4 of the annual nitrogen in the fall. However, if you really want to do something, keep it to organic. Organic can't hurt the grass like a synthetic fertilizer can.

is there a good organic fert with a higher nitro #. My last app. just before top growth stops i been using 46-0-0 urea. Is urea a organic fert?

Urea is a synthetic organic. Urea occurs naturally in urine, but the urea you buy as fertilizer is synthesized from petrochemicals.
