Water help???

Hi all - Thanks for any help... as you can see from the photos, I have an irrigation issue. I live in CO and have clay, not dirt. One part of my yard was continuously getting way too much water as you can see in the picture. There is a pool of water, which has killed the grass and algae has started to grow. I have dug up the offending area and checked the sprinkler head for leaks. No leaks. The last 2 pictures show the area after I dug it up, 2 days after watering it (for 10 minutes). In other words the standing bowl of water has been there for 2 days looking like this. The water simply has no where to go. The water level decreases only by the sun's evaporation. It is in the middle of my small yard (11'x12') and I'm not sure what to do...one sprinkler guy suggested building a french drain. I can't figure out why the water won't eventually disperse? Thanks for any help...

RE: Water help???

Your yard may have been properly graded but when that garden bed was installed with additional soil and the metal barrier, it blocked your drainage. Whether you have clay or otherwise impenetrable soil, the situation needs to be corrected. Are you in love with that garden bed? Does it have to be right there?

Try putting a few drops of baby shampoo (or other clear shampoo) in the water right there. Sometimes that helps the water penetrate.

Are you in the mountains or out on the prairie?
