Yet another leveling post

So, I had my yard leveled today. Yes it has a pretty significant slope. I think since they aerated, the stuff is staying in place even after 20 min of watering. See before and after below.

Thanks for the pictures I admire your lawn
if you are in the ATL area , I am just curious what sand and where you acquired it ? Great to see the pictures and I bet it is going to look great in a few weeks

Thanks! I took the easy way out, because of the severe slope. So I paid a leveling service. It was $800.

Looks really good. Your grass looked really good even before the leveling. As you know, I'm trying to repair my neglected bermuda yard and it REALLY needs to be leveled because the grass has thinned out and the rain has washed a lot of the top layer of clay/soil away leaving a very bumpy yard. My only fear is that the sand will also wash away because I'm still working on getting the grass to thicken up.

What company did you use for the leveling? Do you know what type of sand they used?

RE: Yet another leveling post

I hope it's not against forum rules but I used Level Lawn. I got quotes from 3, but they seemed the most competent and actually came out to measure. Sandman used Google Earth and quoted 5500 sq. ft. vs the actual 3300.

I think they (LL) use a mixture of compost and river sand. I'm not a big believer in river sand for this purpose (after reading here), but I didn't have a choice.

Oh, BTW, my lawn prior looked really green and healthy thanks to TW and the Bermuda Bible. I stick to it and cut twice a week.

Oh and DSM, I think aerating (and scalping of course) first really helps keep it in place. Did you see the video I posted in the other thread?

rager_w - I looked at their website (LL) and I do have to admit that it's tempting to hire them versus me doing it myself because they clearly have the right tools for the job.

Do you have any pictures of what it looks like now? Are you still pleased with the quality of work and the quality of the sand?

So, here it is after roughly one month. My new Trimmer 25" does a great job now.

RE: Yet another leveling post

Here it is from the other angle, similar to original. You can see it needs to fill in a little more.

RE: Yet another leveling post

What height are you able to cut now?

...and finally, the new toy.

RE: Yet another leveling post

Im at 7/8" right now. I will go lower once I stop traveling for a few weeks.

Looking Good!

THAT'S what I'm TALKING about!

Did you watch them do the work? I want to know what their process was. With the help of people on this forum and others, we have developed a method which works for the homeowner. It is always interesting to see how the pros do it, though.

Dave-
It's in the video that I posted previously :).
I'll need to touch it up in a few spots. In the second week we had a couple of fierce down pours that washed some sand away. No big surprise given the steep slopes I have.

I've been over this topic 3 times. How am I missing a video?

RE: Yet another leveling post

Thanks for the update rager_w! Your yard is looking great and the leveling really did make a difference. I actually spoke to a neighbor of mine yesterday about his yard because I noticed that he had a reel mower and a golf course quality front yard. He told me that he had Level Lawns do his leveling back in March/April of this year and he was happy with their work. He was quoted $1200 but he talked them down to $850 supposedly. I will be doing this next spring because by then all of my bermuda will have had time to thicken up this summer and the new sod will have settled.
