That is likely the SC variety of the same disease I seem to get every year in San Antonio. Here's mine.

I treat mine with ordinary corn meal at a rate of 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet. Corn meal is the first and only thing I've used that worked. In San Antonio it is too hot to apply chemical fungicides in the summer, so corn meal has been a Godsend. I had an ever enlarging area in the lawn that would not grow grass. I replaced it with new sod and the new grass died before it rooted. With corn meal it took about 3 weeks to see that it had turned the corner and was coming back.

Corn meal works in a biological sense. As the corn decomposes in the lawn it attracts a predatory fungus which feeds on the disease fungus. The various life cycles of these microbes is the reason for the slow action and cure.

Get corn meal in 50-pound bags at your local feed store. They might ask if you want corn GLUTEN meal. You don't. Corn gluten meal does other things, but killing fungus is not one of them. Call your local feed stores before you show up. They might not have it.
