Weird grass / growth from seed blend

I have always been a "Rebels" fan, and have used the Rebels blends of TTTF almost exclusively for both renovation and patching of my NJ lawn. In the past, I've also mixed in some KBG blends to promote healing.

This year, I opted to repair some bare areas with a different brand of grass - Scotts - based upon success a relative in generating a lawn that looked very similar to my Rebel TTTF lawn. I figured using the Scotts premium blends would give results similar to the Rebels. I used a large portion of Scotts premium TTTF and a smaller fraction of their premium KBG. I don't remember the varieties off-hand, but I can check to see if I still have the bags and labels.

What I've seen has been interesting.

I've gotten fairly good stands of grass that certainly resemble what I was expecting. But I've also gotten some intermittent patches of what LOOKS like TTTF or KBG with a very odd growth habit. The TTTF-like bunches grow very much like a crabgrass (I don't believe they are) - tall quickly and in wide bunches. And the KBG-like bunches grow more like a zoysia/bermuda-style grass.

I imagine there could have been some seed contamination in the soil, some contamination in the seed blend, or the Scotts varieties are just "bad". Would appreciate any thoughts.

The one on the left could be orchard grass, barnyard grass, quackgrass, or any number of grassy weeds. The one on the right is probably poa annua or poa triv, but I'm leaning towards annua.

It could be annual ryegrass. Check the seed mixture on the label.

I would have to agree with orchardgrass on the left. But more importantly, the shredded ends of the turfgrass blades indicate a need to sharpen the mower blade.
