The 'P' in bags of dry lawn fertilizers has been eliminated but in the cans/boxes of the dry powder for flower & garden plants... why? Phosphorus in one & not the other now! & since the removal, the price on a bag of lawn fertilizer has gone UP! $$$

P, or phosphorus, is an essential part of plant health. It, along with nitrogen and potassium, is a macronutrient. Phosphorus, unlike nitrogen, stays in soil for a fairly long time, it isn't subject to quick leaching. Multiple applications of phosphorus are essentially a waste, and it finds its way into watersheds which has harmful effects on aquatic ecosystems. If your soil is deficient in P, shown with a soil test, then you can buy fertilizer with P. Both too much or too little P can cause plant problems. If your plants are healthy odds are you don't need P.

I was aware of the effects of too much phosporus so figured that was why none of the bags of lawn fertilizer now have any in it for the past two years or so but I was curious as to why the plant & garden dry fertilizers still have it in them then?

Most turf fertilizer has very little or none, has been that way for a long time. The only one typically high in P is starter fertilizer.
