Fungus? Armyworm? Burmuda help needed!

Hello everyone,

This forum has been a great resource for me through the years. I'll keep this quick and to the point--I could really use some help.

5 year old bermuda lawn
follow berumda bible as best I can
lawn about 1.25" long--was recently cut back from about 1.75-2" by lawn service.
Week after this mowing is when this problem appeared.
There was some brown spots after the low mowing, but not this dramatic. I left for a week and returned to this.

Water once a week

Its been extremely hot here (and everywhere) lately with temps over 100 for the past 10 days or so.

I have dug down and do not see any grubs, I also have poured water and looked for army worm and do not see any.

I am wondering if reducing mowing height right before the 100 degree temps brought on this problem.

Unfortunately I do not know how fast it came on or if it is spreading as I just returned home yesterday and saw it as it looks now.

I see a straight line of brown spots across the center of the picture. Lawn mowers move in straight lines; bugs and fungi don't. Therefore, I blame the mowing.

Thanks David,

I tend to agree. Do you think it really was from it being cut lower? Wouldn't we see a larger amount of dead grass?

If it is from mowing, is it truly "dead"? I know bermuda can be scalped and will grow right back.

No, it's not dead. If anything, it looks like the lawn has recovered nicely from the lower mowing. Right after mowing, there would have been a definite brown hue to the lawn. It looks green now.

Just guessing. Did they bag the clippings? There would have been a lot of clippings. The straight lines look like where the clippings could have been discharged on each mower pass. When you mow that much grass, you'll get random clumps of clippings also. The clippings would stay there until you get a good wind/rain or until the subsequent mowing.
