Thanks For Helping Me Fix My Lawn

This is my first post. I purchased a house in the Atlanta area back in March that sat vacant for a long time. The yard had been neglected for quite some time and was overgrown with weeds. I didn't know much about lawn care and figured I would have to kill everything and start from scratch. After speaking with my County Extension office and spending a lot of time on here reading through the forums, bermuda bible, etc, I thought I would thank everyone and share some photos of the progress that has been made. It may give others hope that were in my position back in March!

Thanks!

Now its time to start working on the garden beds that will line the fence!

Great progress!

What height are you mowing your bermuda? It looks a little tall. It would tighten up alot if you could get it closer to an inch. Don't worry about trying it now. Wait until next spring green up.

Job well done!

Yes! And it helps that you repaired and painted the fence!!

Sorry to say but next April might look just like this April with the weeds. But you can rest easy in having the confidence of knowing that all is not lost.

I see the new bermuda is coming in slightly yellower than the rest. It will all grow together and once mature, you will not see that. What you might see, though, is the bermuda struggling in the dark back there behind the crape myrtle. Asiatic jasmine is a nice, shade tolerant, ground cover. There are others.

Looks a little tall to me, too, but I'd wait to bring it down until the summer heat is over. If you have a bumpy surface, then you might want to keep it higher than an inch until you can do a nice leveling on it.

grasshole - Thanks! I purchased the Fiskars 6201 reel mower. I mow every 3-4 days or so at it's lowest setting, which is supposedly 1 inch, although I'm not sure it really is that low.

Ok, cool. Then you are probably right about an inch tall.

I was looking at the edges next to the bedding areas. Probably just threw an illusion of being taller in the pic.

Disregard my previous height posting. :) You're doing good without my help. :D

Kudos, again. Great transformation, and I'm sure it will continue to progress every season!

yes, i think my lack of edging makes creates a tad bit of height deception in the photo...

dchall_san_antonio - i had not thought of adding a ground cover like that for the areas between the grass line and where i plan to put in garden beds.. i tried trimming back the trees to allow for more sun, but i can already see where the grass in the back is growing quite a bit slower. i may need to create a new strategy.

Looks great, thanks for sharing the pics, I love the way the bermuda can fill in and thicken up when you give it the right care like you have
