Is moss such a bad thing?

I have some shady areas around my house and bordering the woods where I would prefer the moss to grow. It's greener than grass, and I won't have to mow it. I'm finding lots of advice on how to get rid of it, but is it possible to make it spread? I think it's pretty.

I have a house in the woods, really in the woods, and I have lived here forty years, and I know what you are talking about. I have a hard time getting grass to grow under the trees (East Tennessee). Creeping red fescue seems to grow best, but I also have a lot of moss. I don't have close neighbors, so I don't worry about what others may think about my yard; I just want it to be green; moss is green: nuff said. You could take little pieces and spot them around where none is, and It will spread. Fertilizer will kill it.

Thanks, I'll try that. I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciates moss.
