This hot dry summer has really created a Japanese clover problem. What should I do? Do I have to wait until spring to treat with a pre-emergent herbicide? Which one? Will corn gluten work? I really need help!

Japanese clover spreads outward from a single tap root. If you sit down with it and pull up all the spokes from the tap root, you can take out huge amounts with one stroke. What kind of grass do you have? Is shade a factor? How much and how often do you water? or how much and how often is Mother Nature watering? How high/low are you mowing it? How often do you fertilize and with what?

Grass is mostly centipede and in some parts of the lawn shade is a factor. Since the drought is so bad this year we are allowing the centipede to grow fairly tall (about 2"). Hoping to shade out the Japanese clover. Just fertilized with an organic. Lately we have been getting more rain. Probably less than 1"/wk though. Local regulations ask for conservation of water so watering lately has been an issue. If we get rain in early fall I was wondering about overseeding-but with what? As soon as the weather cools I will treat the really infested areas with Weed B Gon unless someone has a better suggestion. The Japanese clover is more of an issue in the sunny areas of the lawn and in some places it is all there is. Do I need to remove all of the clover with a herbcide and thatch before overseeding?
