4 week old Bermuda Grass care in Texas - Newbie

I need some help and Guidance from you vetrans Please!

First off Just had a House built in Euless, Tx,(First home- first time lawn keeper) just closed on the House Tuesday so now Im able to start on the lawn this weekend. The Builder would not let me work on the lawn untill closing....so they have been handling the watering, etc.

The Home came with a sprinkler system.

The Sod was layed On June 4th, it rained the two days after.
They had been watering for 20 minutes
5 Days after getting put down and Mulch against the fence in the back, Weeds started to pop up, but again I could not treat the lawn.

First question is, With the Sod still being 4 weeks old and it now being 100 degrees plus everyday what should my sprinkler schedule be set to?

Been told not to fertilize it, have been told to fertilize it, been told to stay away from Scott's right now because its synthetic and in the heat will melt and kill. Should I wait and fertilize it in the fall, or should I hurry it up?

Not sure what type of weeds these are any help on that and how to handle them.

And at what level should I mow??

Thanks in Advance!!!!

Google "Bermuda Bible" and read it. It will tell you everything you need to know about routine Bermuda care.

The first weed pic is nutsedge, more commonly called nutgrass by me. Get some SledgeHammer and spot treat. You can do that right now.

Not quite sure about the second pic.

The second weed is Johnson Grass. Just continue to had pull it up this year, you do not want to start using post emergence this season as the sod is not established.

Find the Bermuda Bible and follow the routine. If you maintain your Bermuda properly the weed issue will mostly take care of itself.

Come later this year as the summer heat breaks you can then start your pre-emergence program.

I see you have a privacy fence which is going to cause you some problems with the Bermuda. Al the grass on the north side of the fence will die off to about 5 to 6 feet distance due to being in deep shade. So plan on doing some shade beds in those areas.

Ive been reading the bermuda bible, just making sure fresh sod while its 100 plus degress would cause for a small variation on the watering etc, fertilizer.

Sedgehammer or the Ortho Sedgehammer killer will be in my future soon!

Actually the Weeds in pics 1 and 2 are the same , it was a before and after pulling.

Only modification you have to make from the Bible is more frequent watering due to the shallow root system of new sod.

With that said forget about any type of watering rules like 1-inch per week. It does not work. Instead let your grass tell you when it needs water by looking at it. Then give it a good soaking of 1-inch of water.

It is real easy to tell when Bermuda or really any grass needs water. Look for the first signs of color shift from emerald green to more dull bluish grey color. When the grass starts to get dry the grass blades will curl up to minimize sun exposure and conserve water. When that happens the underside of the blade is visible and has a duller Bluish Grey color.

The other method is the walk test. As you walk look behind yourself for foot prints. With well hydrated grass the foot prints disappear. When dry you will see your foot prints.

Learn how to do it as it is really easy once you have seen it once or twice. At the very first sign, soak it. In everyone's yard there is an area that goes dry first before any other area. Find that spot in your yard and watch it. It will typically be a high spot exposed to the elements of sun and wind.
