| I have had my lawn treated profesionally for the last few years and have not been totally satisfied with the results. Tried switching companies a few times but nothing has worked. We live near the coast and the soil is very sandy. We have Bermuda, which I know is more difficult vs other grass types.
On a recomendation from a landscaper friend, I applied a 14-7-14 product to try to thicken it up a bit. This application was 3 weeks after the last application by the lawn service company (Again on the recomendation) and have asked the lawn service to hold off a bit on the next application. Well now, many areas have browned out and appear burnt. Including areas that were probably the best in the entire lawn. I am very concerned now. Did I destroy my lawn or should it come back over time? It has been hot and somewhat dry but I do irrigate on a regular basis. Probably should have left it alone and worked more closely with the company treating it. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

| A few questions: How much 14-7-14 did you apply? Did you water it in right after the application? At what height do you cut your Bermuda? Do you know what kind of Bermuda you have? |

| Tiemco, I used a Lesco commercial spreader at setting 16 I believe. That was again based upon the recomendation. I did water it in that next morning. I probably don't have the proper mower as I own a Toro zero turn tractor that does not do a great job at mowing low. Therefore I mow it at 2" usually, which avoids scalping th euneven areas in my lawn. I believe we have something called TIF-419 Bermuda. Thanks for any advice you may have, I appreciate it. |

| So you don't know how many pounds of fertilizer you applied? Bermuda is somewhat of a fertilizer hog in the hot months, so I doubt you applied too much. I'm not really a warm season grass guy, but I'll tell you what I know. By leaving synthetic fertilzer on your lawn overnight, you can expect to get fertilizer burn on your grass. Always water in synthetic fertilizers after application. Burn is caused by the fertilizer pulling water out of leaf tissue, basically dehydrating it. The dew that forms overnight only makes the problem worse. Tifway-419 does best when it's cut very short, 1/2 to 3/4 inch. Two inches is too high for that cultivar, and it will become thin at that height. A reel mower is what is needed for cutting that Bermuda properly. Hopefully TexasWeed will be along shortly to tell you what to do next. In the meantime google the "Bermuda Bible" and give it a good read. (TexasWeed wrote it as he is a Bermuda sod farmer). |

| Thanks Tiemco. I applied a total of 100 LBS (2 bags) and my lawn is approx. 18,000 sq feet according to the last info left by the lawn service company. Maybe since it has been so hot this past week, it is a bit stressed and not due to the supplemental treatment I tried. How long should I wait until I tell the lawn service to resume their normal applications? It has been two weeks since I put the17-7-14 down. I will take your advice and read the "Bermuda Bible" as you suggest. |

| No nitrogen for at least 30 days, use 39-0-0 next time per the bible, or a nitrogen only fertilizer where 75% of the nitrogen is slow release. I'm assuming the fert you put down is all fast release. Just read the bible, it's all in there. |
