| I need a grass type that fits this description best.
It does not have to be green
Has very deep roots
Has thick (but not sharp) blades
Can grow in heavily sanded areas
Is non poisonous to all animals
Can grow in shady areas
Can survive 0 degree winters
And can tolerate an !extreme! amount of traffic
Is there anything out there that fits this description?
Thanks to everyone in advanced,
-David |

| How much shade? If you don't get a couple hours sun, forget it |

| About the only grass that might have a chance is Poa Supina, but it doesn't have deep roots, and doesn't like drought. If your soil is sandy you should try to raise the organic matter percentage, maybe bring in some good topsoil too if you need it. It will do ok in the shade, spreads well, and does great with traffic. It also does very well in colder temps. I live in Southern CT too. I plan on seeding some poa supina at the end of August. |

| Well it's for my ducks cage, that's why it's sandy (for drainage) and I wanted the deep roots so they couldn't rip it up easily. I've seen other people with grass in their duck enclosure, so I know it's possible. I heard zoysia may be good, but I dunno. In fact I'd rather just have about anything grow in there, Is there anything, grass, weed, etc thats hardy? |

| Ha, I thought it was for kids playing soccer or something like that. So do you plan on mowing the duck enclosure? Grass needs regular mowing, usually once a week. I imagine that you will have to move the ducks to another area regardless of what you plant, and grass should have at least a month before it is used, 6-8 weeks would be better. I still say poa supina would be a good choice, it is very durable, it's used on soccer fields in Europe. It will take a while to get established though, and is probably the most expensive grass seed around. |

| lol ya, with ducks it's like having 20 rugby teams play on a field all at once. Yeah it will be mowed regularly with the rest of the lawn. Ok thanks! I think I'll go with that, and I'll just keep them off of it most of the time until it takes. It's ok if it's pricey, I'll only need one bag if that. Thanks for the help! -David |

| A word of warning, it can spread to the rest of your lawn, so if you don't want it in certain areas, you shouldn't plant it. |
