Help with bermuda

I hired a lawn service to mow my yard this summer. I told them not to mow short in hot weather. Well, I came home one day and the front yard was scalped. I cannot get it back to looking green again, although I water a lot. We are in extreme drought here for the last 3 years, but I have always had green grass. I don't know what to do now,I know its way too hot to fertilize.
I wish I had never heard of these people, even though I'm 80, I wish I had done it myself. Anyone have any thoughts what I could do? It hasn't been mowed for 2 weeks now and all there is to mow is seed.

As long as you are watering, you should put down fertilizer. Something like Vigoro 29-0-4 would be fine. http://reviews.homedepot.com/1999/202052040/ultra-turf-16-5-lb-ultra-turf-phosphorus-free-turf-fertilizer-reviews/reviews.htm You need to push some top growth to get it green again. Bermuda loves the heat and nitrogen.

When you say you water a lot, what you should be doing is watering deeply but not every day or so. Once per week should be often enough as long as you are getting a full inch into the soil.

You can measure an inch with cat food or tuna cans placed around the yard.
