My Drought Stricken Iowa Lawn

July was very HOT and dry here in central Iowa and my lawn of KBG and TTFF went dormant about 3 weeks ago. The 100F temps for about 2 weeks was the worst part.

We have had about an inch of rain in the past 4 days ... but it's going to take a lot more to green things up again.

And to answer you questions about why no watering ... well I'm getting a $120.00 water bill just to keep my flower beds and shrubs alive.I used about 8000 gallons. I have a drip system on 80% of my planting beds. Water is expensive here because of high fees per 1000 gal used for sewer treatment.

If you can schedule your next inch of rain for about 2 weeks from now it should help keep it alive until temps cool down and the real rains return.

Im over in Oklahoma City and completely understand what youre going through. However, water here is a little cheaper but I'm starting to slow down my watering. The yard is baking at 110F in direct sun. Nothing wants to be alive. Not even the driveway. Your giant elephant ears look great though, maybe replace the yard with those? :)
