Lawn Newbie, Need Some Help

I'm a novice when it comes to lawns and lawncare, so I figured I would start here. About 2 years ago I did a lawn reset on my front lawn because it was all weeds. Now most of the lawn is nice, but I get these spots of grass (?) that grow much faster (and lighter in color) than the rest.
Is this just a different type of grass? If so, how should I replace it with the same type of grass as the darker shade?
