How to extract small rocks before sod

Hi
I would like to lay sod on my front lawn.
The problem is that the soil is packed with small rocks Ã¯Â¿Â½" this is aggregate rocks leftover from a retaining wall project (done by very sloppy constructor)
The stone/rock size is vary between half an inch to an inch
Is there any tool that can extract the rocks something that I can rent?
I can till the ground and then use garden rake Ã¯Â¿Â½" but it will be a lot harder.

I was thinking of building a screen using 1/4-inch mesh metal fabric from the hardware store. Nail it to a frame made of 2x4s and shovel the soil into the screen. Soil falls through - rocks don't. The problem becomes how to dig up 1,600 square feet of soil but only the surface. You might possibly use a sod cutter. It cuts horizontally to a depth of about an inch. Use that to pick up the surface, toss it through the screen, and redistribute back to the spot where the soil came from.
