If you want a traditional lawn NOW (!), find someone who supplies a mix of fescue and Kentucky bluegrass sod. There is no seed that will take this time of year...except possibly bermuda.

If you can wait a month or so, look into wheatgrasses and blue grama for seeding as soon as the summer heat breaks. These are prairie grasses which look just like a lawn when planted properly and mowed once a month. They need little water or fertilizer, but they must have full sun all day.

How coarse is your sand? Is it more like beach sand or more like gravel? If it is gravel, you are going to have trouble establishing anything.
