Bermuda - Brown Tips and Green Blades?? HELP

Posted by daveatl none (My Page) on

I am into my second round [month] of fertilizing with 34-0-0. 98% of my lawn is green and beautiful, however this afternoon I looked @ my lawn and the blades are green like the rest of the grass, but the tips are brown [1/4" of the tips] and are in the shape of a 3' semi-circle in two spots -- what is this? and how can I fix it??

P.S. Definitely not overfertilization, I've overfertilized in the past and this is not it -- I fertilized this lawn over two weeks ago and the tips seemed to become brown overnight, last night.

Without seeing any pictures my best guess is a dull lawn mower blade.

Or purchase a reel mower.

Last picture if from a dull blade. Just look at the frazzled ends. You blade is tearing nut cutting.

As for the yellow spots is nitrogen burn from your dog.

Thanks for the info -- I'll get the mower blade sharpened and monitor the dogs/wildlife in my area [b/c we have no pets].

"Or purchase a reel mower."

Doesn't matter, will need blades sharpen, even more so than rotary.

Those yellow splotches with the pattern they make look like urine or chemical burns is why I brought it up. Looks just like the pattern a male dog would make hiking his leg. The only problem is Bermuda is not usually burned by urine unless it is really hot weather.

Well the couple of days I had noticed it was especially hot outside. However, How long until this disappears?

I'm guessing I'll have to wait for some new growth?

For it to grow itself back out. Are the spots getting larger?

 o
RE: Bermuda - Brown Tips and Green Blades?? HELP

The spots had gotten progressively larger from about 1' to 3'. It looks like it's stopping @ 3'.

So, will it take a couple of weeks to grow out? disappear?

How much and how often are you watering?

1 inch, when it needs to be watered -- trying to follow the Bermuda Bible.

Was told to pour bleach on my asphalt as a deter animals from coming onto my property -- is this correct of use something else??
