Will Sand Burn My New Burmuda Lawn?

A week ago I sod my lawn with t-410 Burmuda turf. Due to much unevenness I had mortar sand spread today. I just read on another website that due to our hot weather (avg temp 95-6) the sand could do more harm than good by burning the grass. Is this so???

Some areas were so uneven that 1-2 inches of sand was laid. It looks smothered. Did I go too thick?

The sod is growing beautifully thanks to Texas Weed advice but never saw depths of sand advice and certainly not burning. Has anyone else heard of such?

Most grateful for any help here

I wouldn't think that sand would burn the grass. The grass is already hot as a firecracker. (I suppose if someone applied a huge pile of sand that was 140 degrees some burning could occur for sure but properly applied sand shouldn't hurt a thing.) It should be watered in. After water is applied in large quantities you can evaluate for yourself if there is still too much sand. I doubt that you will have too much. The opposite is generally the case after sand does it's self leveling trick in conjunction with heavy watering or rain.

What is properly applied sand? I have an inch or so of wet sand sitting on top of some of my sod. Should that be? Or should it be watered in? In some areas the sand is almost as thick as the sod. Is this normal?

Sand will eventually self level with enough water. Bermuda will grow through in most cases with no problem if you water it and fertilize it regularly.

I don't think the sand will hurt. It is used in Texas all summer long for leveling.

You should expect the grass to take longer to return from the deeper parts where you leveled. 2 inches is a lot - you must have had serious issues.
