Weedy lawn clippings as mulch?

The recently sod yard of our new house is growing poorly and is getting tons of weeds, i.e. crabgrass and many others, on our rock-hard post-construction clay soil. I know I need to get organic materials on the soil to help improve it, but is it a good idea to use the grass clippings from the weeds in the yard itself? Our mower collects everything (no side discharge) so I have a large pile of dried grass clippings, and it seems a waste to just let them sit there, but I feel like I'm going to make my weed problem even worse.

On a similar note, I can't get a consensus on a weed killer that is safe for a bermuda grass lawn. Does anyone have experience with a weed killer that didn't ruin their bermuda grass? Thanks!

Instead of bagging your clippings, why not leave the bag off and mulch mow? If the weeds haven't gone to flower or seed, they should be okay to use. The resulting addition of the clippings would also mulch and breakdown providing more nutrients returned to your soil.

Agree with CG and find a copy of the Bermuda Bible on the Internet. Memorize it.
