| Unless you live in Alaska or northern Canada, it is probably still too warm to fertilize with chemical fertilizers. Wait until the evening temps start to really break and cool down. Most people who want to aerate are doing it because they have hard soil. They believe it is compacted, but it is just hard. You can relieve that by spraying a surfactant like generic baby shampoo. Spray at a rate of at least 3 ounces per 1,000 square feet and follow that with an inch of irrigation (measured with cat food or tuna cans). Repeat in 2 weeks and you should be good for at least a year. If you really want to fertilize now, you can use organic fertilizer any day of the year. |
