I believe they are called pre-seeded blankets. I've never seen a U.S. manufacturer, I've only seen them available from Europe. There used to be an infomercial selling a product called Roll-On.

How big an area are you talking about?
Is it full sun?
Are you willing to water when it gets hot?
Willing to fertilize?

Thanks to you, I found some Google hits (including Amazon) for the blankets. Interestingly, the reviews at Amazon were not very good. (A neighbor of ours recently used the blankets and they worked perfectly.)

We live in N.C. I have used grass seed and Scott's "patch" mixture many times, with varied success. I have also tried sod, but at my age the digging and hauling is a burden.

The area in question is partly shaded. I do regularly water and fertilize so that's not a problem.

Yeah, I can't imagine a blanket of seed being more effective than scattering seed with a broadcast spreader.

What kind of grass do you want? I'm assuming a mix of fescues and Kentucky bluegrass, but please correct me if I'm wrong.
