Growing Grass Over Clay

Hi, I'm a novice and a first time homeowner looking for some advice...a few months ago the utility company unexpectedly came and put a new pole in our front yard. In order to get it to stay, of course, it needed to dig about 10-15 feet deep, and once the pole was in place the hole was filled with the clay that was dug up so deep into the ground, so I now have a patch about 4 feet in diameter that's all clay on top (with the pole in the middle).

Any advice for steps I can take to grow grass in that area? I've removed many of the rocks that were brought to the top of the surface, but I'm not sure what my next steps should be. I'm not sure if I need to remove some of the clay...just put topsoil and grass seed on top of what's there...something else? It's near the road and as a result on a slant, which could complicate efforts. Thank you for any thoughts!
