Help Identify grass

Posted by paulfurn VA (My Page) on

I have this grass popping up throughout my lawn. It is lighter green, grows twice as fast, and seems to sprout from a thick stem. Any ideas on what this is? Is it more of a weed that I should be pulling?
Thanks.

I've been seeing this a lot in my area (NJ) and have been wondering about it myself. Just a guess--could be yellow nutsedge. If it is, it's a pain to get rid of because it forms little nutlike tubers that break off when you try to weed it. I've been plucking it out of my lawn anyway--it tasks me!

Here is a link that might be useful: Yellow nutsedge

I don't get it in my lawn but it's ALL over in my flower beds. Just pulled out 5 pounds worth yesterday evening
