| I was thinking about ordering a pair of these shoes as they seem to be a cheap way to aerate my yard but are they affective? I live in Alabama so what would be the best time to aerate my Bermuda lawn?
Sorry guys, I know I am asking a lot of questions but just this summer I have become a yard enthusiast and am trying learn as much as possible. |

| Depends what you mean by "work." They do not perform the purposes normally associated with core aeration. They dont reduce compaction or thatch. The only possible advantage might be the severing of stolons if your grass spreads by that process or for better traction when in a tug of war. |

| If your soil is hard and water does not penetrate the way you would like it to, then I would suggest spraying the soil with a wetting agent. My favorite is generic baby shampoo. Spray at a rate of at least 3 ounce per 1,000 square feet. Follow that with an inch of irrigation or rain, and repeat in 2 weeks. I was a real skeptic of that method and had developed another method that worked every time. But when I tried this it worked much faster than my method. So I'm a convert. When your soil is "normal," it will be soft when wet and very firm (hard) when dry - just like a sponge. Use that and you will never consider aerating again. |

| The aerating shoes will not provide the results you are wanting to achieve. That can only be done through core aeration. The best time of the year for core aeration on bermudagrass in your area would be around mid - late June. I would recommend you wait until next season. The generic baby shampoo method previously mentioned will indeed provide you with a softer soil surface. |
