In this dreadful heat how is the water and sewer bill?

Hello all,
Yesterday I went to pay the water and sewer bill. We had sod put down in May so this was the first bill we received since we had sod. I was quite happy with the water bill, but the sewer bill was ridiculous. I asked the lady at the counter did they have mercy on people with new yards and watering and she said she understood but they were told they can't discount the sewer bill. Well in this rinky dink town I wasn't surprised.

I read, and I'm sure there are others out there, that a town in Connecticut based their residential usage on the amount of water used during the winter qtr. They bill 4 times a year. The reason for this is that any water used during the winter is discharged into the sanitary sewer. During summer months water is used to water lawns, wash cars, fill pools and never enters the sewer system. By basing the billing usage on the winter quarter only, homeowners are not billed unnecessarily for water that did not enter the sewer system. What a great idea!! How is it for others that have sod put down or any others that use significantly more water in the summer?

Well you have learned a lesson the hard way and know why folks install a second meter for irrigation so they do not get charged for sewage, and most sale irrigation water at a lower rate than domestic use water.

My town averages your water usage between Sept 15 and May 15 then caps your sewer charge for the remaining months at that avg usage. Even then, we have the most expensive water on the planet and my irrigation bill is $250-400/mo during the summer or approx $.005/gal.

I have a little less than an acre.

we live in a SERIOUSLY rinky dink area with a township brand new to sewer - it was just put in like 2 years ago. We have horrible water and sewer standard fees cause we're paying off all of the debt on those facilities, but they even base our summer bill of our april one (jan - mar) cause it's typically the lowest sewer bill. We are only charged as much for sewer in summer as whatever our April bill had for usage - the rest is assumed to be outside use water.

No offense offered but sounds like you can afford it? Nice lawns are a luxury item.

Crystal thats the least they should do. Our rates went up this year. They installed new sewer lines and about 3 years ago installed new water lines.
