Hi all, have nutgrass spreading throughout my lawn; front and back. I got some sledgehammer 0.9g last summer and want to apply it, should i do it now? Im in NJ and the temp is around 85F? or should i apply in Spring? I wanted to try and kill it off now and then overseed in fall.

Anyone have any success using sedgehammer? thanks!

I have the exact same question. Have nutsedge and need to kill it so it doesn't compete with my overseeding which I am planning next week. I'm in northern VA.

Sorry I don't have any experience with Sedgehammer but would both of you please describe your soil (sandy to clayey) and your watering habits (daily to weekly or somewhere in between and how long do you water). True nut sedge, aka Nutgrass, is a swamp sedge, but the conditions you have can look like something else. For that matter there is another weed that looks like nutgrass that is not a swamp grass.

Just an update. So last week i mixed 2 table spoons of dish detergent with 1 gallon of water and some sedgehammer and sprayed the nutsedge. 1 week on, it has stopped growing and starting to yellow. Im amazed actually. I thought nothing was happening but they have definitely stopped growing. The yellowing has just started to happen in the last couple of days but they look like they are dying slowly. Very happy! I will spot spray again anything that's still up by the end of next week and hopefully then i can just kill off the few weeds i have then do a complete overseed. I'm pleased with sedgehammer thus far, nutsedge has been driving me crazy for 5 years now as it was getting worse and worse year on year. Fingers crossed!
