| I need to remove about 500 sqft of more-or-less continuous crabgrass. I plan to use RoundUp to kill it. My question is: do I have to remove the dead crabgrass, or can I just use a powered slit or drill seeder to deposit the turf seed into the soil through the dead crabgrass? If it has to be removed, will it come away with a leaf rake?
Thanks. |

| Just mow (with bag attachment) the dead grass as low as possible before seeding. Anything left will disappear in a few weeks and help prevent soil erosion. |

| Agree. There is another method for killing crabgrass if you insist on killing it. If the area is pure crabgrass, you can use baking soda to kill it. Check out this YouTube video showing you how to do it. Baking soda used like this will kill other grass (except St Augustine), so the method is not very well known. As you can see from the video it dies very fast. |
