Leveling with Sand was delayed. Can I do it now?

Due to a family emergency which required me to be out of town for several weeks, our lawn leveling project was delayed. Our builder has agreed to level our yard for us and he wants to do it now rather than later. Will any harm be done doing it now? I also need to know if I should apply fertilizer or a pre-emergent, and if so, which kind? Should it be applied before or after the sand?

I would think it's a little too late now. Jon |

Thanks Jon. Can anyone tell me what the negatives would be if I did it now? I know that I will have to water it like crazy right now, and I'm ok with that. I live in Tx so the grass has several more months before cold weather really hits.

I'm here Carrollton and I think you will be fine as long as you're willing to water. My bermuda was covered w/ metal panels and various construction material for 2 weeks b/c of a major roof job and 2 weeks after the job was completed you can hardly tell the grass was smothered for so long. So go ahead and do it, the sooner the better. Good luck.

OK I am confused. Is this new construction to lay sod, or an existing lawn?

This is my excisting lawn of bermuda grass. My house is a year old and the builder agreed to level it for me because it is so uneven. The builder wants to do it now vs waiting until the spring. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the fact that now he can work it into the 1 year warranty on the house, in the spring he can't do that.

This sounds like it might get ugly. Just how is the contractor level the yard? I suspect with a tractor and box blade, or a skid steer. If he does that, you lawn will be pretty torn up. If it was say June the lawn would recover before fall. Depending on your location it may not repair itself before fall frost.

The builders landscaper is doing the job. They have done my neighbors as well and used about 12 yards of sand and spread it with rakes, not a tractor.

Hello there, If I had a builder do it for me, I would have them do it at this time. However, if I had to pay for it myself, I would do it late spring/early summer, just when the warm-season grass starts to grow aggressively and I would gain the most benefit from the do-it-yourself project.
