 o
when to kill an existing lawn in order to overseed a new one

I live in hot West Texas. We are in the middle of one of the worst droughts in history. I let the drought catch me off guard and my St. Augustine lawn is ruined. I have decided to overseed with Zoysia but would like to know when I should go ahead and kill what is left of the existing lawn. I read that the best time to spread zoysia seed would be in early spring. How ever do I kill whats is left now or in the spring. Right now I have more clover than grass.
