| Hello all -
I've been doing some searches for Bermuda grass but had some specific questions. My husband and I just moved into our home and the builder laid the sod the day we closed (August 5). Unfortunately, we had no other options. That being said, it's been 100+ degrees every day. We've watered daily for 30 minutes on each station and it's looking pretty good. There is one section that will need to be replaced but overall, the grass is turning green and growing. So, my questions are (in relation to BRAND SPANKIN' NEW SOD): 1. When is it okay to mow? I know we should use a high blade setting and all that, I'm just not sure if there is a certain height we should wait for.
Any help for a couple of newbies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

| What due you mean by high blade setting? Bermuda really doesn't like being cut more than 2 inches high. Since you are likely to have tiff (do you know?) and i am guessing a rotary mower 1-1.5 inches would be good. 1st mow would be at 2-3 weeks. So if you haven't done so get, after it. But do not cut more than a third of the grass blade. Grass at 2" cut at 1.5". 3 high cut at 2........... I think your best bet on newly sodded grass is to pull weeds by hand. It may be to soon to apply a weed killer. |
