Something digging in my lawn.

I have lived here for over 20 years and have never seen and digging in my lawn. I mowed my lawn late yesterday afternoon, this morning I was in my back lawn and saw numerous, probably 50 to 80, dig places. The places are about 2 to 3 inches across and most only go to dirt level but a few go down about 2 inches into the dirt. I do have squirrels but I have only seen one under my bird feeder. We did have a coon and little one in a dead tree but have not seen then in at least 2 years. I have no idea what to do.

I don't know your zone. Sounds like feral hogs or armadillos.

Sounds like a racoon did the same to my lawn was eating grubs i think made a huge mess .....

I live in the foothills of North Carolina. I have planted a lot of lawn plants and did not see many grubs. If the coons have returned any suggestions for keeping them from digging in my lawn.

See if you can find what the digger is digging for. Dig up a square foot of soil looking specifically for grubs. If you find a bunch in that square foot, then that is likely what they are looking for. If you kill the grubs, the diggers should stop digging.
