Want to take my lawn back to normal

I've recently inherited an old home with a magnificent two acre front yard covered with 100 year old oaks. It will be a second home for me and I just cannot fathom the leaf issue about to assault me. I have this dream that I can just let the leaves fall and not rake or blow resulting in a natural state with minimal grass even in the summer due to the leaf cover . Am I dreaming? What should I do?
