such strange weather!

Hello forum,
I'm near Atlanta and I've had 4 inches of rain over the last week. And daytime temperatures that have been 15 degrees lower than the norm. My St. Augustine which was showing signs of very slow summer growth has now woken up with a vengance, and is growing as I watch!
WHat is the forums thoughts regarding feeding in this part of the world between now and thanksgiving?

Thank you for any help,

Ian

Have the same question too....will all the rain wash away the fertilizer?

It is amazing to see St Aug really take off in the fall. With rapid growth already in place, you might have missed an opportunity to do the traditional late summer feeding. Feed again after the rapid growth slows down.

I always use organic fertilizer any time I want with no fear of burning.

Well the rain has eased and the temps have risen, though nowhere near to their seasonal norm, the ten day forecast suggests temperatures will remain around 5-6 degrees cooler than the historical average.
Why are you suggesting not to feed now?
Or as I had planned to on Labor Day?
Thank for your help,
Ian

If the grass is already growing fast, it does not help to fertilize and make it grow faster. It just wears out the grass. Organic fertilizer does not always make the grass grow faster. Alfalfa has growth hormones in it which can make the grass grow faster. If you want to use an organic, you might use ordinary corn meal, which is cheap this year.
