maple seedlings in lawn

I have two maples near the curb of my property. Large maples. They drop thousands of helicopters every spring.
I used to mow, and during the spring they would eventually dissapear. This year I have MANY more, and they wont die. They are such an eyesore in the lawn. broadleaf weed killer did not work.
Anyone remedy this problem before? Do I have to make a carreer out of pulling them one by one?
Thanks for any advice.
Wayne

Just mow over them they will die. Bayer Advanced weed killer will do the trick also. Buy it in the spot sprayer.

rosemallow, I'll have to try the bayer. Many people have told me that mowing over them will do the trick, however I mow twice a week, and there has been no change and it is now August. I also am concerned about what nutrients these saplings are stealing from my turf.

Capri, your lawn must be zo.e sort of maple heaven!

I have always had a few volunteers but mowing always tips the balance in favor of the grass.

If it makes you feel better, one year few back we had tons of baby oaks in my yard. They would be noticable above the grass near the end of the week before I mowed. Has not been that bad since. Must have had the right weather.

What is your fertilizing schedule? Perhaps that is helping the maples as well.
