 o
when to fertilize newly laid tifway 419 bermuda ?

My sod has been laid about 10 days. The landscaper didn't
apply any starter fertilizer. The sod is rooting nicely. Some spots are firm to the ground. I have been watering religiously
4 times a day and the ground is kept moist. Soil is clay.
We've had just a small amount of rain and the temperatures have been running 90-100 every day.
When should i apply fertilizer? should i put the combo fertilizer for root devolopment or straight nitrogen?

It was probably fertilized at the sod farm so if you are talking about chemical fertilizers, wait a month from when you received it. If you want to use organic fertilizer like Milorganite or other organic ferts, you can do that any time beginning with the day you laid the sod down.

You did not mention mowing but you should be mowing, too. As soon as it gets to 2 inches, mow it to 1.5 inches.

Now that the roots are knitting into the underlying soil, you can start to back off on watering. Ultimately you should wean it back to 1 inch, applied all at one time, per week in the summer months and 1 inch per month in the cooler months. How you get there is up to you. This is not rocket science. Even when the grass is dormant, the soil needs an inch per month for the soil microbes to do what they are supposed to do during the winter. Let Mother Nature work, too. If you get an inch of rain, then you don't need to water.
