 o
damaged lawn due to dull mower blades

I had new sod put in on a new home last October and have managed to keep it alive and well even during our record hot summer. With the last mowing I noticed some sections beggining to yellow and thin. I raked them and found a large amount of dead grass coming out. I just mowed again today and now the grass is almost all yellow. I water as often as needed and very deep when I do. I have fertilized about 3 weeks ago. I discovered that my mower blades were extremely dull, and I do mean extremely. I expect that this is the cause of the yellowing and damage. My main question is whether there is anything I can do help revive the lawn. It really looked great til this, and now I have a birthday party planned for this weekend and thia has come up. I appreciate all help in advance.

Fixed by the weekend, no. Fixed yes based on the assumption it is Bermuda grass.

The problem will fix itself by just keeping the blade sharp, proper mowing, watering, and fertilizer applications.

Unfortunately, damage to any grass can be instant. However, given enough time to recuperate and you helping it recuperate via watering and cutting it with sharp blade, the grass will make a comeback. I personally sharpen my mower blade about once a month because it is a rotary mower and the damage to the cut grass is minimized. In about 2-3 years, I will have my bermuda 419 properly leveled and at a stage to truly benefit from a reel mower cut.

I would buy a new blade for your mower and give your lawn some fertilizer.
It will recover nicely this time of year, but not by this weekend!
