Lawn Hobby, question: do you plan on seeding just the one blend of Kentucky Bluegrass or are you going to order a blend of other types....which is the usual recommendation.

It is common to spread combination grasses so that they can give the lawn what is best for their particular strengths; heat, sun, shade, drought.....so on and so on.

If you use just one blend of Bluegrass then you are leaving yourself open to all what causes problems for the type.
Commonly ryegrass and fescue is in the blends....some more one type than others.
But, 30%- 40% Kentucky Bluegrass, 40% perennial ryegrass and 20 - 30% Fescue is is a good blend that can give your lawn all the good attributes of what each does.

For spreading over a fresh seeded lawn 3 pounds of seed is recommended per 1000 square feet.
For overseeding half rate is what is called for...1 1/2 lbs per 1000 square feet.

You know....its not against the law to spread more than what the experts say to do. To that, spreading 2 lbs per 1000 is just attempting to give each seed a chance to germinate and if the birds visit regularly, the extra bit can go to them while still letting you not be anxious they might be taking more than their fair shape.
