| My one year old sodded lawn has a lot of Crabgrass. I just aerated and overseeded my lawn and I plan on applying pre-emergent next Spring to control Crabgrass. But since there is still time for Crabgrass to die out for this season (until the first frost), how do I cover those Crabgrass spots with grass seeds to avoid having bare spots by Spring? Should I spread topsoil on those spots and reseed? |

| The new seed should grow in the aeration holes. It's too late, but what you should have done is kill the crabgrass prior to aerating and overseeding. Spray it with roundup a few weeks prior to seeding and when it's dead, try to remove as much as you can. I wouldn't worry too much. In the winter, your lawn will turn brown everywhere. The dead crabgrass won't stand out. |

| @ Parimal: What type of turfgrass is in your one year old sodded lawn? @ kidhorn: I don't think it would be a good recommendation for Parimal to spray Roundup on their one year old sodded lawn. A selective herbicide would have been a better recommendation. However, your suggestion for removing the crabgrass prior to aerating and overseeding was correct. |

| @kidhorn - my concern is that those bare spots will be prone to weeds in spring since I won't be able to reseed in spring while also using dimension pre-emergent. I could use siduron, but I hear it's expensive and not that effective. @nearandwest - I don't know what mix of cool season grasses I have in my lawn. I over seeded with a sun and shade mix which included perennial ryegrass and KBG. Just so I know, which selective herbicide i could have used? Thanks both! |

| A selective herbicide would be better if your aim was to just kill the weeds, but if you plan on seeding immediately after, roundup is preferred since it does a much better job of killing. |

| Other than siduron and tenacity (?), most other selective herbicides (like WBG Max W/CG control) recommend not seeding for 4 weeks or so after application. |
