yukon bermuda

Hi,
I am going to rip out my fescue lawn that gets no shade and is being overrun by common bermuda and create an all bermuda lawn. I have researched this and I think Yukon is the seed that I am leaning towards. Where can I buy this seed and still get high quality? It seems to be hard to come by. Also, what are the advantages and disadvantages to this seed, and how much would I need for 1/2 acre?

Hancock Seed carries it, and you should be looking at ordering fairly soon for a Spring delivery.

Is main advantage is it is the most cold tolerant of the seeded varieties, Spring Dead Spot resistance, and early Spring green up..

Seeding rates are 2 to 3 pounds per 1000/ft2 and 95 to 115 pounds per acre.

They always run out of Yukon so as TW said order now. Expect to pay $1000+

Great. I will check with them today. I have experience only with fescue. What is the correct way to sow yukon seeds? They are smaller correct?

Bermuda seeds are very small. It's easy to sow them too thickly. I've always blended them with corn meal (4 or 5 parts corn meal to one part seed)to make spreading easier. The yellow color also helps to see where you've been.

You don't need to do much more than scratch the ground before planting. I have a slit aerator which is a lousy aerator but it does a great job of making small trenches for the seeds to wash into.

One more thing. You might look at seedland.com for seed. I bought Princess77 from them several years ago and all went well for me. 25 lbs of Yukon is $449.

Here is a link that might be useful: Yukon
