friends the best and I hope none of them are in harms way. Apparently the wild fires are out of control all over the southeastern quarter, if not the entire eastern half of the state. dchall, Texas Weed, Texas Tifway, and all the other TX folk, I hope you're safe and haven't lost any property in all the mess there.

Well thanks, but I am in AZ now. However the ones I care about most are in TX. Wildfires are a deep concern but only a short term crisis. The real problem is you can live without a lot of things, but you cannot survive without water. TX needs a massive hurricane or rain event soon. Water reservoir lakes are about dry, and water wells are drying up. Houston has dried up its reservoir and now draining lake Conroe reserve.

Yes, it's a tinder box. I live near Wichita Falls. Our average year to date rainfall is a little over 20 inches. We've had a little over 3 inches so far. Combine that with temps between 105 and 112 and, well... At least it has cooled off the last few days. To make this a lawn thread, I have basically given up on my lawn this year. My front yard never greened up. I've watered the back yard but a $450 water bill slowed that down. A few weeks ago we were sitting by the pool on a Saturday afternoon and smelled smoke. My neighbor's lawn was on fire. I got to it barely in time to save the wooden fence. Had it been a week day when all were at work, well, I don't want to think about it. We have no idea how the fire started. A cigarette butt comes to mind but this is a small residential street with little traffic except for the residents.

Homechicken thank you. At my other house we have 55 acres of tall dry grass behind us that is a powder keg waiting to go off, the only thing we have between us is a 10ft wide creek that has very little water. We know some friends that had family that had some close calls. It's very bad here every county around us has at least 1 or more fires and the firefighters are streched thin.

Here are some pics floating around Austin right now. Some are of the Bastrop fire, some are of the Steiner Ranch fire. One of them is of the Cedar Park fire, which is about ten minutes up the highway from my house.
