Starter Fertilizer - Proper Application Rate?

Posted by Lawn_Hobby 6 (My Page) on

What is the recommended application rate for starter fertilizer (in lbs/1000 sq ft)? Just the regular Scotts brand. All that's listed on the bag are numbers for a Scotts spreader (which I do have). But I'm a bit concerned that the manufacturer is maybe over-recommending amounts or something. So I thought I'd run it by the GW crew. I'll fertilize either today or tomorrow, btw.

Thanks.

Hi, see the several September 12 postings in the
Reseed/Overseeding Question thread.

I usually use a half app at the time of seeding, the second half after the first mowing. Usually one pound of P (not N) per 1000 is the recommended rate. Obviously if you split apps it would be 1/2 pound of P per 1000 square feet.
