Attack bare spots or aerate/overseed?

Hi all,

I have a number of bare spots in my yard that I want to try to take care of, but my soil is also pretty compacted. Should I do the core aeration and overseeding now and see if that helps the bare spots, shouuld I get the bare spots in a good place first and waiting until next fall for the core aeration/overseeding or can I do them in tandem (aerate and overseed then give bare spots extra attention after)?

Why do you have bare spots? Are you watering deeply, once a week in the heat of summer? Because if you are not, there is not much hope that the seeds will be successful for you.

How often do you water and for how long?
How high/low do you mow and how often?
When were the last two times you fertilized and what did you use?
What kind of grass do you have?
